Georgia actively observes and ensures compliance with the sanctions imposed by our international partners. This also applies to the aviation sector.
In the process of granting foreign airlines access to the Georgian aviation market, Georgia is guided by national legislation, the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and bilateral and multilateral international agreements.
Georgia also takes into account the sanctions mechanisms established by the European Union and the United States.
Furthermore, in order to ensure the safety of passengers, the domestic aviation market and aviation infrastructure, the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency has for years applied, as an additional monitoring mechanism, the sanctions lists maintained by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), including the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List (SDN List) and all other sanctions lists administered by OFAC. Accordingly, under this mechanism, Georgia has previously restricted the operations of several airlines.
Georgia will continue to strictly comply with international requirements and to apply these mechanisms. Accordingly, since the expanded sanctions list announced by the U.S. Department of State includes airlines that currently operate air services between Georgia and Iran, the Georgian side, as in previous cases, will act in full compliance with the international sanctions regime.
